Who can use .tel?

Post by Sunrise on Sat 16 Mar 2013, 6:02 pm

Small businesses? Their .tels can’t be found.
Large businesses? Can large businesses make a good impression by displaying their .tels?
Individuals? If you only want to share your phone number with others, why not using Facebook or About.me for free?
Domain investors? The best .tels are worth less than $1.
Software developers? They don’t get any support from Telnic.
A serious question: What is .tel good for?

Please don’t understand me wrong: I don’t want to rant, but after 4 years I want to know why .tel has been left in the state from 2009 when it was launched!

It would be good PR if Telnic/Telnames would register a username on TelTalk and respond to the points made above by Sunrise.

Alex (before he quit .tel - for greener pastures?) mentioned that his stats showed an unusual number of "guest" users came from London - the home of Telnic/Telnames - and we know they read this forum regularly because of the legal issues Alex had.

So come on Telnic/Telnames - register a username, make it clear that it's an official one - and answer the many reasonable questions asked by your .tel customers !

Inexperience and who really has the experience of running a TLD? anyone who tries has to learn on the job, sure they can go to X and Y advisers who haven't ran one but who think they know how and get a tiny fraction of understanding, but tel is not just another pop up domain where the only issues are legal and making sure the bills are paid plus a little marketing.

It's a "with hosting" tech domain and worse case scenario every time they want to add a single thing they ask ICANN for permission, which might mean why it's taking so long, which might mean why they have so little money left if they have to pay fees to ask permission to expand on what they all ready implemented.

And we all know ICANN is notorious about its bureaucracy and fees and how long it takes to get minor changes.

Aka as my partner http://kilynn.tel says they didn't know what they were getting into.

Now they do and it's I'm sure harder to manage than some guy running a market stall or a shop.

Telnic isn’t answering the questions on the Telnic forum. Why they should answer them here?

Agreed. Telnic will avoid answering anything, because the complete stop of development can’t be explained without admitting the total failure!

I don't really expect Telnic/Telnames to respond to my post - any more than they have responded to so many other quite reasonable requests from both Telnic and TelTalk forum members.

It would be good PR for them - but it seems they just don't care any more about customers who bought the original Telnic subdomain format .tels - if you look at their site Telnic.org they seem to have lost interest in it - the home page is still talking about the forthcoming introduction on 1st June 2011 of Short & Numeric .tels !

Their loss of interest in the original Telnic subdomain format .tels explains:

1. Why the Telnic forum is still in "lockdown" mode - discouraging newbies who won't bother to register just to read posts.

2. Why the .Telegraph newlsetter was changed from monthly to quarterly then cancelled.

3. Why the Roadmap was abandoned.

4. Why development has now stopped for all but minor changes and bug fixes.

Here's my "not so crazy after all" idea on why this has happened !

Let's see who exactly had failed and who not.

Who has losses:

1. Domainers and owners of TEL - they are spending a lot of money every year for renewals.

2. Investors and shareholders who, as it seems, lost most of their $35,000,000.

Who has profit:

1. Company's staff - they have their very good salaries every month. Especially good situation is with top-management - really good salaries.

So, some indeed had failed, but some not.
