Telnames Newbies & SEO

Post by mikeseaton on Tue 09 Apr 2013, 7:31 am

It's always informative to check out the current total registrations in the centre of http://www.dottel.net and also to click the top left square which gives the name of the latest .tels registered.

One thing I notice day after day is Telnames .tels registered as Service+Location.tel or Location+Service.tel.

That's fine in principle to encourage the registration of keyword combinations that will actually be searched for, and I get the impression that's one of the key reasons many Telnames newbies are registering .tel domains.

But those with SEO experience know that it VERY DIFFICULT to get a ONE PAGE DOMAIN to the first page of Google search results.

When the newbie registrant isn't aware that to stand even the remotest chance of doing this ALL OF THE TARGETED KEYWORD COMBINATION MUST ALSO BE PRESENT IT THE TITLE, then there is a real danger the Telnames domain will not be renewed when it fails to generate any significant search engine traffic for the keyword combination present in the domain name.

Here's just one example of what I mean - http://SurveyorsCamden.tel - obviously registered to target Camden clients but with no mention of Camden in the title - just the full name of the surveyor company.

The key point is that many newbies are registering Telnames domains under a mistaken impression that they will be found on the first page of Google etc for Service+Location or Location+Service queries, yet have not realised that to achieve this they must include all of the keyword combination in the Title and also generate hundreds, maybe thousands, of relevant backlinks.

Disappoinment is bound to follow many of these Telnames .tel registrations - this could be avoided if there was a Tel Global Directory that was itself designed to be SEO-friendly - but there isn't and AFAIK nobody is developing one !

Following the discussion at http://www.teltalk.org/t1118-the-first-dialog-with-telnic-this-year I think SEO is only a priority for the original Telnic offer.

Does Telnic not notice that something must be done?

Which Telnames customer would generate backlinks?
But that wouldn't be necessary.
If subdomains would be available, content could be built and subsequently a Telname could be found for local searches.

Not according to the Telnames home page which uses this in their sales pitch to persuade people to register a Telnames .tel domain:

Consumers on the go use mobile search mostly for finding out the essential information, quickly contacting the business or locating business on the map.

This is only an advertising slogan and not the reality for Telnames.

Precisely !

And here's another quote, this time from the top of the Telnames home page

Get online and reach new mobile customers within minutes
But in business you have to deliver what your marketing promises or eventually you get found out and word-of-mouth destroys your company's credibility, future sales and employees jobs !
