How can Telnic have such an out-of-date web site ?

Post by mikeseaton on Fri 17 May 2013, 9:39 am

Look at http://www.Telnic.org and see what sort of impression it creates for a company that wants to change the way the world communicates - this site is simply out-of-date !

Here's a few examples from a quick look just now:

1. New Launch links to http://www.telnic.org/short-numeric-only.html which refers to a forthcoming event (registration of Short and Numeric .tel domains) that took place on 1st June 2011 !

2. .Tel For Businesses links to http://www.telnic.org/tour-global-directory.html which invites you to "Join the world's only Real-Time Global Directory" - this doesn't actually exist !

3. Independent Directories listed at the bottom of http://www.telnic.org/community-groups.html are mostly irrelevant/dead links !

It's enough to make you despair and give up with Telnic's version of .tel !

Perhaps that's the idea - http://www.Telnames.com has no such issues !

As we found out lately Telnic is in the process of closing the service for old customers with the target to operate all business only through Telnames. It's only consistent to prevent new registrations through the old channels.

I would be OK with all .tels being in Telnames format (although it would mean the time I have spent on setting up my existing subdomain-based .tels would effectively be written-off) as I believe Telnames offers the best way forward for the .tel project.

There are however some issues that Telnames need to address regarding the way they have their accounts set up at the moment:

1. It is not possible to transfer a .tel domain to Telnames without an account already being set up.

Fair enough, if it wasn't for the fact that you have to register a new Telnames .tel to set your account up, you cannot just create a new free account and then transfer your .tel domain in. So first transfer = 2 charges i.e. registration + transfer.

2. On the sale of a Telnames .tel domain there is no facility to "push" the sold domain to the new owners Telnames account.

So how do you move the Telnames .tel domain to its new owner after a sale ?

3. The Admin contact on a Telnames .tel domain is automatically set to Telnames itself, rather than the domain Registrant as would normally be the case (and is so with Telnic .tels).

Given that it is normal for the authorisation email to go to the Admin contact in the event of a domain being moved to a new account, you potentially become reliant on Telnames support for this - which does not operate 24/7.

All of the above 3 issues are capable of being resolved by Telnames.

Here's my plan for how Telnic/Telnames can save the tel project which involves ALL Telnic registrars, not just Telnames.

mikeseaton wrote:1. Come clean with ALL the people involved with the .tel project - software developers, domain investors, power users, normal users and Telnic subdomain .tel registrars and admit that the future of .tel lies with the Telnames single-page format.

2. Invite the Telnic .tel registrars to join the Telnames single-page format by:
- Letting them sell .tels with the Telnames format
- Telnames handling the CTH (with their excellent Control Panel) for the registrars.

3. Do a special deal (for a limited time) that enables Telnic .tel registrars to offer their existing subdomain .tel customers the chance to switch at low or no cost to the Telnames format, whilst still staying at their existing registrar.

4. Produce the promised but never delivered "Tel Global Directory".

5. Open up the Telnames API to software developers.

6. Do whatever it takes to persuade the world's largest domain registrar, GoDaddy to sell the .tel extension.

STILL OUT-OF-DATE - Even the Copyright Notice says 2010-2011 - Have Telnic given up on everything non-Telnames ?

I note the Apple iPhone on the home page of http://www.Telnic.org is an out-of-date model - the 3GS - there's been the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 since then !

I also note the Telnic Timeline at http://www.telnic.org/community-timeline.html (to let you know what's happening when) has a last entry for future activity of Q4 2011 !

TELNIC, IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WAY THE WORLD COMMUNICATES YOU NEED TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR OWN CUSTOMERS - OTHERWISE YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR CREDIBILITY !

"Otherwise you will destroy your credibility". That was destroyed long ago. Actually more like obliterated.

I'm going to answer my own question and say YES - click this link for yet another example of NO INTEREST NOW IN TELNIC .TELS !

What is the matter with Telnic - do they have a death-wish ?

OK Telnic - no more reminders after today about your 2 years out-of-date web site at http://telnic.org

We get the message - Telnic subdomain .tels are dead in the water now - no longer of interest to us - tough luck for you loyal registrants but just move on !

Telnic could win back a lot of trust when old mistakes won't be repeated.
