The solution for .tel is easy

Post by di7 on Tue 24 Sep 2013, 5:41 pm

I was thinking about how to bring life to .tel. Honestly it's very easy. Today we have two options:
1. Bad design, bad SEO and no additional features in comparison to a .com at Telnic
2. Nice design, no SEO and no additional features in comparison to a .com at Telnames
My idea is somebody could call Telnic and tell the employees that only the combination of all three elements can bring success. Perhaps somebody can explain it in very simple words, because so far it seems not everyone has understood this.
In the past the problem was that people were thinking the facts described above are very obvious, but we have to consider the possibility that Telnic needs some private lessons to learn walking slowly in the domain world.
You have to explain it like you're talking to small children.

We all have been so stupid over the years. Telnic just doesn't speak our language. That explains everything!

Agree totally - but until Telnic stops pretending that a Global Directory already exists - see http://telnic.org/tour-global-directory.html - NOTHING WILL EVER HAPPEN !

PS. FAO Telnic:
Global = Structured by Country
Directory = Structured by Category (within Country)

Probably a bit more than that even for a basic initial version of a Tel Global Directory - unless of course Telnic subcontracted the job to Mark Kolb who would no doubt rattle it off by the end of next week !

Be a few grand well spent of Telnic's remaining millions !

Global can also simply mean encompassing all.

If they are worried about not having enough registrations for a Global directory as you've suggested, they could at the very least have a global directory that has all .tel registrations, as registered.

xxxxxxx.tel @ 200,000 is a global directory of .tel registrants.

They don't even have it that simple, without pumping it full of sub-domain garbage.

No simple respect for .tel registrations, from Telnic, the operator.

If you can't even get that, you're already doomed.

Telnames could at least do that much, xxxxx.tel @ 11,000 !

This forum has a better directory and display of Registrants than Telnic or Telnames has for their registrations.

A software developer could quite easily build a Tel Global Directory.

I even considered doing that myself, and developed a bit of software to automatically generate a real-time database which would then be queried.

But I dropped the idea - the ROI (Return On Investment) was simply not going to be there.

NO SERIOUS DEVELOPER WILL GO AFTER A SHRINKING MARKET - and that unfortunately is what .tel has become after years of refusal by Telnic to engage with its own customers !

Apple have become the worldwide success it has by giving its customers what they want, or can be persuaded to desire.

Telnic unfortunately doesn't seem to subscribe to that philosopy at all !

Who is right (rhetorical question) ?
