New initiative to avoid the end of .tel

Post by Telfoundation on Fri 13 Dec 2013, 11:39 am

Since several years we can watch the .tel project resting.

Telnic doesn't develop any software and is reducing the team constantly as pointed out recently:
http://www.teldomains.biz/t58-justin-hayward-has-terminated-his-employment-at-telnic#105

Maybe Telnic doesn't have enough resources to program a decent template for its customers?

What does the community think about collecting some money for Telnic to activate some development effort?

I've found the donation form on this website:
http://www.teltalk.org/buy-credits

Since Teltalk has become the most famous resource for .tel, could the forum administration manage the collected money in trust and transfer it to Telnic?

All participants could sign a contribution to Telnic with the target that Telnic should use the money to realize a useable control panel for all customers including the ability to administrate pictures / videos and a good looking template which is missing until today.

What do others think?

@Telfoundation

Welcome to the TelTalk forum - but I have to ask the question "Are you for real ?".

Forum members have already invested THOUSANDS of DOLLARS and MAN HOURS in the .tel project through registration/renewal of .tel domains and extensive software development effort over many years.

None of us started off with $35,000,000 in the bank, courtesy of shareholders, and then went through this at an extensive rate with the only actively promoted format http://YourBusiness.tel to show for it !

So I doubt a begging bowl at TelTalk to help Telnic - now down to their last few million dollars - will get very full !

IMO nothing significant is going to happen until the money finally runs out at Telnic !

That's a pity.

It wasn't possible to program a nice website application for $35,000,000?
Where is the money gone?

It certainly didn't go to anything intelligent !!!!

What's the most popular search engine in the world ?

Google.

Why ?

1. You search for something
2. You get (somewhat) relevant results
3. You connect and explore various worlds through results' links.

Hmmm.

What's the most popular search engine in the world for contact information ?

White/Yellow Pages.

Why ?

You get 1, 2, 3 above specifically for Businesses and People.

So, people buy domains/websites, and people buy listings/ad space.

Why ?  To get found.

Is .tel a website? No.
Is .tel a listing/ad space? Yes.

So, did anyone intelligently focus on a .tel directory ?

Of course not, and .tel can't be found, so few people care.

.tel can never, and will never, compete with websites and full service domains, so, that leaves their unique qualities best suited as a listing/ad space in an intelligent directory.

Duh.

@GoTel - what really gets me is that Telnic believes they have already created a Global Directory !

Check out the page http://telnic.org/tour-global-directory.html - this page is also referenced in the bottom left as Global Directory under the Benefits of .tel section.

It's difficult to know whether to laugh or cry at this effort to convince users that a Global Directory has in fact already been built - Telnic seem to inhabit a parallel universe to the rest of us in matters such as this !

Nothing was developed by Telnic accordingly and all results are premature:

Website (mobile and desktop): ugly
Search: dysfunctional
Directory: not existing
Friending: pure beta status

Can you believe .tel is almost 5 years on the market already?

It's doesn't take a genius to figure out why any intelligent person would select this statement as key, does it?

Anyone can see this is obvious since DAY 1, that's why it was so popular of an idea to begin with, it was needed as such.

Too bad it's become an EPIC FAIL because Telnic didn't do it.

NOW, we have thousands of new FULL SERVICE gTLDs coming on the market, and instead of Telnic promoting a REAL directory in it's own unique right next to them, they will continue to try and compete with them.

It's like a Yellow Pages listing trying to compete with a Full Service website - SAD, SAD, SAD.

Everyone knows .tel's place except Telnic / Telnames.
