Why Telnic does nothing?

Post by StrangeWorld on Wed 01 Jan 2014, 6:07 am

Are there really people who believe to make money with one page websites?

Telnames can't be serious!

Telnames is not about a one page website, it's a listing to compete with Yellow Pages.

Maxi just showed in another post someone that uses old .tel for a directory of Yellow Pages in the world.

Telnic created .tel and telpages to compete with Yellow Pages and White Pages.

This is a typical Yellow Pages listing:

http://www.yell.com/biz/station-inn-beith-2919435/

This is a better listing:

http://stationinn.tel

This was the whole reason that .tel was created, old and new.

Here's the whole problem:

http://yell.com versus http://telpages.com

Old .tel and a pile of subdomain garbage means that telpages is garbage.

.tel is about being a better Yellow/White Pages for the world.

Almost everyone in any Yellow Pages has their own website after they have a basic listing in a directory where they can actually be found.

.tel is about a better directory to find a better listing for a website, map, video, offer, phone number, etc.etc.etc.

.tel can never and will never compete with websites, and was never meant to.

When a good Telnames directory is created for Telnames only, .tel has a chance to be exactly what it was designed to be.

Billions of people around the world use Yellow Pages and White Pages everyday because Google is a joke when you just want to find a good listing for basic information.

With Google you spend hours looking through their "relevant" results and all the full website links for the same basic information.

Telnames and a good Telnames directory are the only hope that .tel has, otherwise, go get any one of thousands of other tlds, get a real website, and good luck with Google.

Even then, you will still want to list your website in Yellow Pages or White Pages to get your website found.

Hence .tel is a directory listing without directory. In other words Telnic / Telnames is selling a car without engine!

The big problem - which is not going to go away under the current regime - is that Telnic believes it has already created a Global Directory !

It hasn't of course - but the Directors of Telnic appear to exist in a parallel universe to the rest of us !

So until Telnic uses up the last of its $35,000,000 shareholder investment, and with no cash is forced into accepting a takeover (probably late 2015 or early 2016), nothing of any significance is going to change !

How can that be? The feedback is with one accord. How can Telnic have missed it?

Why Telnic does nothing ?

I've given up trying to fathom out any logic in their response - or lack of it to be more precise - even to BIG IDEAS that could perhaps save the .tel project from its current march into oblivion !

There is a big discrepancy between Telnic and forum members:

Forum members want to earn money with their domains.
Telnic can't say it in public, but that doesn't matter to Telnic. Telnic has other interests, for example to secure a steady income for their directors.

Another aspect is that Telnic doesn't work under time pressure. Domain owners need to earn money with their domains to make their investment profitable, doesn't matter if they own 1 or 100 domains.
This plays no role for Telnic, because they have access to unlimited equity money. Once the first 35 million are depleted, Telnic will simply borrow new money.

The only way to play the .tel game is to follow whatever Telnic decides. Nobody else has a say in it!

There is a big discrepancy between Telnic and the public, the potential .tel registrants.

The public will only register a domain if there is a return on their investment.

For the average person, putting private contact data online means that the return is identity theft or harassment by spammers and telemarketers.

For the average business, putting public contact data online means that the return is a potential customer, provided they can find that data, the best way being a useful promoted directory.

The discrepancy is that Telnic has it's own "ideas" and unfortunately they are only laughed at by the masses in public.

If Telnic has their directors and investors in mind, they need cut off financially, or Telnic is just a tax write-off, hobby losses.

Don't expect the masses to participate unless it is the average person getting a return on their investment.  The best hope for mass registrations is to reach business customers, and promote a directory.

Telnames is the correct approach, just need a real directory, promoted.

Everyone agrees on that!

The problem is Telnic doesn't want to create it. Is .tel lost if Telnic isn't able to create a directory? The work would take only one programmer. Too much for Telnic?

As posted before, the problem is Telnic believes it has already created a Global Directory !

Telnic, I can't find your Global Directory! Where is it?

  • Google? Competition with 2,000 other TLDs?
  • Telpages? No business categories, no categories by region, but 90% empty entries and spam?
  • Search on .tel domains? The same problems as with Telpages?
  • Third-party directories? Why should they care about Telnames with only 10,000 entries?
  • Something else?

Even IF Telnic accepted the need to create a Global Directory - and I don't believe they will shift from their current position of "it already exists" - it is competing with the likes of http://www.checkatrade.com in the UK.

This directory is very good, easily searchable, and most importantly has a feedback system for reputation built in to the structure.

I have used http://www.checkatrade.com several times in recent years to find reliable, local, reasonably priced tradesmen - just the sort of user experience that a .Tel Directory should be delivering.

They have now expanded this idea (in the UK) with the launch of http://www.checkaprofessional.com
http://www.checkatalent.com
http://www.checkaprice.com

.Tel's credibility problem with "Joe Public" in the real world is huge !

Telnic, as I've asked before, what's Plan B giving that Plan A isn't working ?

Telnames was already Plan B (after Plan A with subdomains at Telnic has failed).

The next intent by Telnic is called "Wait And See"!
