Interesting Telnames development...

Post by mikeseaton on Thu 23 Jan 2014, 9:12 pm

...recently tweeted at https://twitter.com/tel_names/status/425945225274462208/photo/1

Telnic subdomain .tel owners (I include myself in that) must be feeling as if there is not the slightest interest in offering design improvements to their .tels any more !

Nice, but only a small adjustment.
Telnic still refuses to work on important improvements.
While customers at Telnames (about 10,000) receive tiny improvements, hundreds of thousands of customers at Telnic sit on useless domains, either waiting for a miracle or not knowing what to do with .tel.

Setting Image Affiliate Ads from the Telnames Control Panel

Post by mikeseaton on Fri 24 Jan 2014, 8:25 pm

OK - just had a few minutes spare to check out the new Image Advert facility I posted about on one of the few Telnames .tels I own - http://BoatSales.tel

It crucially allows you to set a website link for the image you upload so you can now SET IMAGE AFFILIATE ADS ON TELNAMES .TELS FROM THE CONTROL PANEL.

GoDaddy recently contacted me (via Commission Junction at http://www.CJ.com) and asked me to start running their affiliate ads on my various sites.

I agreed - they are the world's biggest registrar and recently bought Afternic who sold a $nnnn .com for me the other day - so I loaded a 468x60 banner ad of theirs complete with embedded affiliate code.

It's very easy to do using http://www.CJ.com - here's how:

1. Click GET HTML (as mentioned I used a 468x60 ad size) and you will be presented with click/image code like this (where 2292412 is the Publisher ID for this particular graphic and nnnnnnnn is my Affiliate ID):

2. Copy and paste "http://www.ftjcfx.com/image-2292412-nnnnnnnn" into a browser address bar and save the image displayed (a GIF in this case) onto your hard drive.

3. Go into your Telnames Control Panel, select Image Advert, use "Browse" to get the image from your hard drive and enter "http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-2292412-nnnnnnnn" into the weblink text box.

4. Click "Save" and your image ad complete with embedded affiliate link will be displayed on your Telnames .tel within seconds - as shown at http://BoatSales.tel

One major improvement Telnames could make is to allow for multiple images/links to avoid user boredom setting in with the same ad always being displayed.

This could be acheived by either allowing say 5 images/links to be saved, or alternatively allowing a Javascript entry so that the CJ Smart Zone facility (which lets you select multiple affiliate ads that are rotated) could be implemented.

I prefer the 5 images/links option - hopefully Telnames are reading this post ?

As usual, the image is not displayed in browsers that use Adblock and similar.

Wasted time.

@silvano - I don't think the multi-million dollar affiliate industry would agree with you !

Even if AdBlock etc. is used to stop 10% of image affiliate adverts from displaying, the concensus amongst the massive number of organisations worldwide using such techniques is that the remaining 90% is still worth doing !

@hulltv - I APPLIED to the Telnames Affiliate Program and was REJECTED - even though I could have brought them around 100+ new Telnames registrations a month through the large number of web sites that I run such as http://www.BoatSearchEngine.com and http://www.Net-Link.com

Telnames had their chance and blew it - which is a bit of a metaphor for the way Telnic/Telnames have run the .tel project as a whole !

GoDaddy saw the value of the 100+ web sites that I run and offered me the opportunity to promote them via their Commission Junction Affiliate Program - why would I want to turn that invitation down ?

It seems GoDaddy sees opportunity - and ACTS on it - while Telnic/Telnames just lets chances slip by !

This probably explains why Godaddy is so successsful and Telnic Ltd. 15 years after formation is still running at a significant annual loss !

PS. GoDaddy have now bought domain resale company Afternic - I'm impressed with Afternic's speed in PayPalling me $nnnn for their recent sale of RoyaltyMall.com.
