Are you still sleeping?

Post by RIP on Sat 03 May 2014, 8:55 pm

Have you noticed, Telnic?
The principle of "nice idea and effortless success" doesn't work!

What have you planned? Taking a nap for another few years?

Whilst it's true that Telnic/Telnames wearing its Telnic subdomain .tel hat
may well have been sleeping in recent years, to be fair the same cannot be said of
Telnic/Telnames wearing it's Telnames single-page .tel hat !

The Telnames version of .tel (see http://YourBusiness.tel) has included the following marketing/promotion :

- Video production
- TV ads
- Radio ads
- Commission Junction Affiliate Program
- Partner Network
- Extensive AdSense advertising
- Participation at Business Shows
- Press Interviews
- PR Releases
- Regular Blogging

So maybe Telnic/Telnames want rid of the old Telnic subdomain format, but can't (at the moment) bring themselves to formally say so ?

How long Telnic will sell .tel domains still through registrars and from when Telnic will offer them only through Telnames?

Once the registration numbers are completely collapsed; so not too much longer in the future:

@ixida - Interesting question !

I have implored Telnic/Telnames on many occasions to let the 133 Telnic Registrars have the chance to sell the Telnames single-page .tel format, ideally with Telnames handling the CTH for them.

But my calls fall on deaf ears - so what we now have is a manufacturer (Telnic Ltd) refusing to let its retailers (the Registrars) have the latest version of a product and instead attempting to sell it direct to the retailers own customers via its 100% owned subsidiary (Telnames Ltd).

Look at any business area where a company has attempted to do this and it virtually always ends in tears - or industry boycott of the manufacturer - or both !

Sounds bad, but from the right perspective it's the only chance for .tel to survive:
As long .tel is managed by Telnic, there is a 0 % chance that .tel will grow.
Sit back and wait until Telnic will be forced to give up the administration for .tel (financially or by ICANN)!

That a total loss of 191,585 or just over 57% !

Yet still Telnic/Telnames refuse to admit there is a problem !

At the risk of "stating the bleeding obvious" (as Basil Fawlty would say):
YOU CAN'T SOLVE A PROBLEM UNTIL YOU ADMIT THERE IS ONE !

Further to my above post on Friday 2 May, there was another MASSIVE DROP yesterday, made up of 660 Removed & 39 Registered, giving a new total reg figure of 141,390 - a loss of nearly 1K over the Bank Holiday weekend !

IT JUST GETS WORSE - clicking http://registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx today Wednesday 7 May shows 1,111 Removed - 85 New - Net Loss 1,026 - Total Reg now just 140,364 !

This 1K+ loss is for just one day - Telnic/Telnames will no doubt feel the need to call an emergency meeting with all directors and major shareholders to find a way to end this sales collapse - won't they ?

My contribution to a Telnic/Telnames emergency meeting:

WHY are you LOSING potential sales by NOT ALLOWING your 133 Registrars to sell your Latest Product ?

To quote a saying that some may say applies to Telnic/Telnames attitude:
I USED TO BE COMPLACENT - BUT NOW I JUST CAN'T BE BOTHERED !

Following the above post some months ago, checking .Tel Total registrations today gives a figure down a further 10K at just 132,212 !

What does it take for THE REALITY OF .TEL to be recognised by Telnic/Telnames and the appropriate action taken ?

My guess is running out of money to pay salaries and expenses is the only way minds will eventually be focussed - by then of course it will be too late !

Interesting to note that neither GoDaddy nor Google Domains have been prepared to sell registrations for the .Tel extension - smart or what ?
