What should I do?

Post by Telreg on Fri 06 Jun 2014, 12:15 pm

In the year 2009 I bought 31 Tel domains and kept them until today.

Could you give me any advice what to do with them?

These are my observations:

  • I have spent more than $ 1.500 registration and renewal fees over the years.
  • I wasn't able to earn any money with them.
  • Especially it's impossible to get visitors for my Tels.
  • Tel registration numbers have crashed.
  • I can't hear anything from Telnic since years.
  • Telnames isn't able to sell Tel domains either.

Is it worth to wait more years until I will be able to use my Tel domains?

@TelBlogger is right - there is no real resale market for .tels at the moment !

Re your "What Should I Do" question you have to ask yourself if you believe the SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT IDEA, WORKING SEAMLESSLY ON ALL TYPES OF INTERNET DEVICES is still valid in today's world ?

I do believe this.

You then have to ask yourself if you believe the DATA IN THE DNS concept is still a good idea, allowing the generation of automated software services by third parties ?

I do believe this.

You then have to question whether Telnic can ever deliver on the .tel project, given their track record to-date. ?

I don't believe they can.

Finally you have to ask whether a dynamic go-ahead company (who understands and values software developers, domain investors, power users and critically their registrar distribution network) will want to buy up the Telnic remnants when the last of their $35,000,000 investment is used up in the not-too-distant future ?

That's the million dollar question none of us know the answer to !

PS. I have today renewed 8 Premium Keyword & 2 Christian Name .tels - anything less than premium I tend to let drop at the moment.

There are thousands of tlds available today, with more on the way.

Only ONE is unique compared to the rest - .tel

The unique characteristic of .tel compared to the rest, limited.

The characteristic of ALL other tlds, unlimited.

"Limited is good" and "limited is bad", and if Telnic doesn't realize that unless a limited offering is coupled with a limited search engine there is nothing but "limited is bad".

The key to a limited offering?  A QUALITY limited offering.

Telnames is the QUALITY .tel limited offering, but without a QUALITY limited Telnames search engine, there is NO POINT.

UNLIMITED will win unless they get a clue about this once and for all.

If it's a limited offering it had better be a quality one.

Telnames is the Lambourghini of tlds, on a dirt road called Telpages with old .tel donkeys.

Where is the Telnames Autobahn? Nowhere to be found.

You can keep the old .tel donkeys, but they are not worth anything unless they become Telnames in a Telnames Search Engine someday.

Will it ever happen, who knows?

Telnic doesn't need advice, because Telnic is a very successful company.

The interest for .tel is non-existing. I recommend dropping all domains and come back IF and WHEN Telnic publish something noticeable that could attract customers for real.
