What's happened to Telnic/Telnames CTO ?

Post by mikeseaton on Thu 19 Jun 2014, 8:34 am

mikeseaton wrote:Henri Asseily the CTO of both Telnic and Telnames...

This is very odd - click Henri Asseily and you will see the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Telnic/Telnames has removed all references to this job on his .tel domain !

Henri has had a lot of success with internet ventures and was the technical visionary behind the .tel project - has he left it now - if so does he know something we don't ?

Three options:

  • He was fired for lack of success.
  • He was fired because no development at Telnic takes place and therefore a CTO is superfluous.
  • He was fired because Telnic doesn't have enough money to pay his salary anymore.

However, he didn't do anything for .tel in recent years and has lived in Beirut since long.
I guess he isn't important anymore.

Apart from being CTO Henri Asseily used to write the mobile phone apps used to update .tels (he posted about this activity on Telnic's forum).

So who will carry out this function now to ensure .tel's can continue to be updated via mobiles when operating system changes force the mobile apps to be updated ?

Or the mobile apps have bugs that need correcting ?

Or the mobile apps need to have new features added ?

I presume Telnic/Telnames have someone lined up to perform this essential job ?

Since Telnic canceled the plan to sell .tel domains in big numbers, many employees are dispensable.

What concerns me about Henri Asseily's apparent leaving of the Telnic/Telnames CTO job is that he was the technology guy behing the DATA IN THE DNS concept which eventually was to provide AUTOMATED SOFTWARE SERVICES in PHASE 2 of the .tel project.

Take that Phase 2 dream away and what's left - just a mobile web site builder - and they are ten-a-penny and often free !

It's a strong sign of failure if the technical brain of this technology is leaving. Hence we can expect further stagnation of impulses the next years.

At least Henri has left right on time before really bad news will reach Telnic.
With each new day, the likelihood for this is increasing.
This is not hard to figure out if a company continuously generates high losses of millions for 16 years in a row (since founding in 1998 until today).

Goodbye, Henri!

And thank you for accomplishing nothing during the last years!

Why haven't you left earlier since you didn't care for .tel since long?

Why http://justin.tel displays still his old title "Business Development and Communications Director for Telnic", because he isn't working for Telnic anymore either.

Instead he is busy with other things: http://www.teltalk.org/t1629-a-good-example-of-how-to-use-a-telnames-tel-for-product-promotion (just like Henri)!

I must admit I was surprised that Henri Asseily was the first executive director to leave Telnic/Telnames - you can probably guess who I expected to be the first to go !

Many more, at both director and staff level, will no doubt follow in the coming months as it gets closer to the date when the money finally runs out.

It's always better to leave a company volountarily before circumstances force you into having no choice about it !

Don't speak poorly of Henri.

When someone suggested to Kash that he was on the wrong track, they were chastised, saying that Henri "is a good friend and a genius."

genius - a person who displays exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of an unprecedented leap ...

Yep, everyone at .tel is a genius, they all took an unprecented leap right off of the London Bridge.

Can someone please save the poor, drowning geniuses?

Re: What's happened to Telnic/Telnames CTO ?

Post by mikeseaton on Sun 22 Jun 2014, 1:34 pm

Henri Asseily was the most technical guy at Telnic/Telnames and was a director with the job title of Chief Technology Officer.

He was both the .tel visionary (think Phase 2 phone/email/etc by name) and also the person who wrote/updated the mobile phone apps

So it is wrong to say that his departure doesn't affect .tel - it probably is the final nail in the coffin of the .tel project - IMO Telnic/Telnames are unlikely to be able to replace him, even if they try !

Who would want to join a company that's been making losses every year since it's formation 16 years ago and may be dangerously close to running out of money ?

Looks like another Director level departure from Telnic has taken place - check out the new .tel version of http://Justin.tel - note the complate removal of references to his (previous) job as Telnic's Business Development and Communications Director !

Justin Hayward
FRSA, Business Development & Communications Professional, Writer, Actor

Currently living in East Sussex.

Recent acting roles include award-winning independent film 'Still Life' by Uberto Pasolini (2013) and 'Cockneys vs Zombies' (2012).

I write editorial copy, speeches, create social media content, compose music and am a keen photographer.

My first novel, The Luck Particle, was published in March 2014 and can be purchased from Amazon.

How many more staff will leave - and how quickly - before the inevitable takeover/buyout happens ?

PS. Justin confirms his move from Telnic at http://uk.linkedin.com/in/justinhayward

On http://justin.tel you can read what he was busy with during his last years of employment at Telnic:

Recent acting roles include award-winning independent film 'Still Life' by Uberto Pasolini (2013) and 'Cockneys vs Zombies' (2012).

After the departure of CTO Henri Asseily I think Telnic's staffing problems would become serious if Aled Williams also decided to leave.

Aled does a good job of handling customer support for Telnic/Telnames - he has to get involved personally (forwarding emails) if you want to transfer-out a Telnames .tel to a Telnic Registrar (which cuts holding costs by over 50%), as Telnames insist on putting themselves as Admin contact rather than the usual practice of the domain registrant (ie. myself) being this.

Aled has handled this efficiently for me when I have been transferring-out from Telnames, but of course he's not working evenings/weekends so you have to wait for office hours.

I would much rather handle the Admin contact myself (Admin is the person who formally authorises a domain transfer) - as with all other domains I own - but Telnames do not allow you to do this, presumably because of their status as a Reseller for Key Systems rather than being an ICANN Registrar themselves.

Just wondering WHY is Aled's work phone number now given as being in Holyhead, Wales rather than Telnic's offices in London ?

Check out http://Aled.tel and you will see what I mean - his "Work Direct Line" is +441407878142 (International) which is 01407878142 (UK) - 01407 is the STD code for Holyhead, Wales.

Maybe with the last of the $35,000,000 shareholder investment being reached there has to be some saving on floor space rental costs at Telnic's office ?

I hope this in not a precursor to Aled Williams leaving Telnic - as mentioned in my previous post he genuinely does a good job for them !

That makes sense.
It was advised some years ago to rent a cheaper office space than in the center of London.
Now Telnic is forced to do it due to the bad business development.
