Interesting development at http://domains.google.com (though "invite-only" during the Beta stage) !

I wonder if Google Domains will offer .tel domain names - somehow I doubt it with the extra resources involved (both server and human) in running the CTH.

GoDaddy didn't find the .tel deal appealing - but what do they know ?

I've repeatedly suggested the http://yourbusiness.tel format should be available from ALL registrars with Telnames handling the CTH for registrars - but what do I know ?

Telnic/Telnames as usual believe they know best - the problem is that the constantly falling .tel registration figures would indicate that this is not actually true any more (if it ever was) !

Why Google is becoming a domain name registrar & what it means for the business

Which leads to the second key reason: new top level domain names.

Google is one of the largest applicants for new top level domain names, hoping to soon offer .blog, .app and .lol domains to the public.

That doesn't sound as if .tel would be a part of the plan.

This Google project will bring a lot of awareness to the new TLDs.
Since they are all competitors of .tel, .tel will lose ground even more!

Unfortunately .tel doesn't seem part of many future plans at the moment !

Telnic had so many opportunities - so much chance to build and encourage the necessary "ecosystem" - but they just let things slip away time after time !

I've now given up with them and am just biding my time until the last of the money runs out - not too long to go now !

I still believe in .tel - but only if run by a dynamic pro-active 24/7 type of company that values its software developers, registrars, domain investors and power users.

It's not rocket science - just a basic good business approach !

i dont think tel will be in google mind set.
tel have a bad reputation now and is a failure no company would want to be associated with it.

one thing for sure google domain should have good google ranking.

Of all TLDs .tel has a unique feature: it's the only TLD with a bad reputation!

If you have any interest in the future of the domain name marketplace this article is worth reading. Here's a quote from it:

Does a pet sitter in Mobile, Alabama want to get online? Come to Google Domains, get a .pet domain, click a button and you’ll have email and a website.

(Google is smartly partnering with the likes of Wix instead of getting into the support-intensive business of webhosting.)

This will greatly simplify the current process of getting online. Google’s main motive isn’t a bit of margin on the domains. It’s getting another business online.

Sounds like Google are after a large slice of Telnames target market with http://domains.google.com and their partnership with FREE web site builder http://www.wix.com which already has 50,033,575 users !

http://MikeSeaton.tel

PS.  Telnames currently has 7,140 web sites indexed by Google.

That's no Problem!
Telnic doesn't show any motivation to sell more than a few thousand domains with Telnames.
Google won't be any danger to this target!
Soon Google will sell millions of domains.
Meanwhile Telnames can keep the 10,000!

This topic is pretty serious:

Google tests domain-name purchasing service, freaking out competitors

Check out what has happened to other domain registrars after this news:

Here's some info from the above article:

Google has enlisted the help of some of the biggest website building providers — including Squarespace, Shopify, Wix.com, and Weebly — to provided additional services, like hosting services, mobile website creation tools, and domain management support, to Google Domain businesses.

With Google Domain, according to the website, small businesses will have access to the following:

•No cost for private registration, so Google covers the cost of keeping your name, address, and other information private
•Branded emails, with an ability to create 100 emails with your domain name (you@yourcompany.com) and forward them to existing Gmail accounts
•Easy domain forwarding, so you can point your domain name to a website that already exists
•Unique customizable sub-domain pages within your new site such as blog.yourcompany.com
•Secure, reliable Internet infrastructure from Google, so you’ll use the same fast DNS servers as Google and experience quick links between the domain and its websites
•Simple domain management tools, like domain locking, adding and managing resource records, and configuring TTL
•Easy integration with top website builders, including features such as customizable templates and mobile site-management
•New domain endings like .photography, with an increase in these kinds of domain endings coming in the future
•Phone and email support whenever you need it, Monday – Friday, 9 – 5.

There is no documented price for Google Domains, but the site shows a photo where a subscription costs $12, while GoDaddy gives you a .com domain for $8. You can apply for an invite code.

Without wishing to state the obvious, Google has a pretty good idea of what gTLDs are generating interest amongst searchers - which is the sole point of a business having a web site ie. TO BE FOUND ON THE WEB !

Interesting to note that Google has not included .TEL in its offerings - neither has GoDaddy (the world's largest registrar) - but still Kash doesn't seem to accept there are major problems needing urgent fixing with the .Tel Project as run by Telnic !

Could Kash be right to believe the current .TEL situation is OK and we TelTalk Forum members, along with Google and GoDaddy, are all just wrong ?

It's possible of course - but somehow I doubt it !

That wouldn't make sense, because .TEL offers only substandard websites.
