Populating .tel From An Excel Spreadsheet

Post by TelBlogger on Sat 09 Aug 2014, 6:17 pm

Anyone know a script or method for populating a .tel page with contact information from an Excel spreadsheet.

I know that you can export an excel file as an XML file but how can you put this data into a .tel is a specific format?

I'm trying to avoid manual data entry from an excel spreadsheet which is very time consuming if you have a few thousand entries.

Before .tel had died three years ago, there has been several services for this purpose, e.g.:
http://domainnamewire.com/2009/05/13/telfeeder-populates-tel-domain-names

You can try these two tools, but they aren't for free:
https://www.telmasters.com/tools/bulk_insert

Thanks Toptel. Was previously aware of TelFeeder and know they closed down.

On the Telmasters tools I have never been able to figure out how those particular ones you mention work. I am paying some people to enter directory information into excel files from phone book information; only name and one phone number. I have never been able to work out how to then up load them in specific formats to pages that I want to populate using Telmaster's tools.

I am pretty sure I will have to pay a programmer to write a script to upload from excel files into the .tel XML files in my required format; perhaps the TelFeeder people still have one.

There currently seems to be a login issue at Telmasters.

The other issue currently is I don't want to spend too much money on development in case .tel goes bust.

Thanks Expert. So when I hire someone to write a script I just point them to this page for development information and for the manual? They read this information and then they can do the job?

I wonder how wealthy Mark must be, since he spends so much energy, time and money for .tel without any revenues.

Yes, that was the way how TELcp, Telmasters and TelFeeder have been developed.
You don't need to develop your own client; an interface for uploading an excel sheet would be enough for your requirement.

Surely .tel is only a hobby for him, because it's impossible to earn money with .tel.

Re: Populating .tel From An Excel Spreadsheet

Um, i am earning money with my main .tel. I just want to complete one .tel. I have quotes between $100 and $250 already for a script. Should be able to get it done for $120 odd.

Then I have guys who are making Excel files up for a complete phone book for a town with maybe 2000 personal land line phone numbers and addresses and around 3-400 business land line phone numbers and addresses. The total cost will be less than $500 which is not really a lot. But .tel design is so frustratingly poor it is hard to approach advertisers with it at this stage.

Now these are all contact records which can't be searched (thanks Telnic :-() but I will offer an upgrade to businesses for a full sub-domain with all contact records and text, images, video for $99 standard and $199 enhanced per year. now currently businesses are paying $2-3000 for a Yellow pages listing and much less for White pages listings er year.

Personal pages at say $19.95 a year (don't expect to sell many of those although people my pay for all their family mobile, facebook etc).

And I also have hotel affiliate banners around the home page but eventually all pages. Not sold any of these yet.

Anyway that's the plan and if I get it done then I'll try to use a call centre outside the country to sell listing upgrades.

@mikeseaton I'll probably end up madder than a bag of frogs arriving at a French restaurant!

@TelBlogger - Good luck with your efforts - but don't say I didn't warn you !

Let us all know if you actually sell a substantial number of listings - and get them to renew a year later - as GoTel repeatedly says there's not much point to a user listing on a .tel if there's no effective directory search in place to actually find it !

Yes these are issues no doubt. But a paid listing gets a sub-domain page which is searchable from the home page search box. it is only the contact records which aren't searchable but you can get to them by scrolling down on the relevant page. The home page will make this very clear in the header text.

Hopefully scrolling on a smart phone is not so difficult but you are right the search issues will be a problem for many users. All we can do is encourage people to pay for searchable sub-domain pages.

A real lesson in the stupidity of the people at Telnic but we know that already and it's been said a million times. Financial collapse can't be too far away for them and maybe someone will be able to resurrect Telnic's twisted destroyed misshapen dwarf-spawn abortion. But we shouldn't hold our breaths.

Weebly has the choice for 28 templates. The creation of a good sub link menu bar would be required to build a directory: http://www.weebly.com/index.php?lang=en#themes/light

Not wanting to build a directory but a sales page on a .com for sales of directory spots on a .tel.
