Diaspora node for social networking with .tel?
Can Telnic look into the possibility of running a Diaspora node server for Telfriends?

Diaspora is an awesome, distributed, open source social network in the making from some young hackers at NYU

The future will offer a multitude of amazing new capabilities for Diaspora. A taste of what’s floating around in our heads right now:

* OpenID
* Voice-over IP
* Distributed Encrypted Backups
* Instant Messaging protocol
* UDP integration

It's open source so it's legal to modify it to become a part of Telfriends befriending system.

The BBC said it was a potential "secure" based rival to Facebook, and so it might be what .tel control panel or telfriends needs to help calibrate with other .tel people without the need to be within the forum, through the befriending system.

At least just the node part combined with the apps and things.

Thank you for your idea, Bunjie. Diaspora is a promising project that could make the social networking sphere more open and diverse. However, TelFriends is not a social networking site, it's a utility for controlling access to private data within a .tel domain. No messaging except initial request, no profile, no built-in chats. There are currently no plans to expand the functionality of TelFriends, although we are working on the usability aspect to make the friending process simpler and more intuitive.

I haven't seen any implementation details for Diaspora yet but it wouldn't surprise me if they use a DNS based naming scheme. I had suggested they consider .tel for this purpose, but no reply

What might be a good idea for TelFriends would be a function to import your friend lists from social networks, hotmail/gmail contacts, IM buddy lists, etc. and then suggest you befriend those contacts that it knows also have .tel names - like Facebook's own friend finder. But this wouldn't be very useful until .tel grows in popularity.
