Have you heard about the curse of "H****" magazine ?

Celebrities that have a major feature in it, saying how absolutely wonderful their marriage and life is, often end up seperated/divorced within a relatively short period after the article is published !

It seems a similar curse may apply to computer industry awards !

There was a company called Telnic Ltd. - remember them - that won a raft of awards in 2009 and 2010 for their revolutionary .tel technology (funded by $35,000,000 startup investment).

It was going to change the way the world communicates, and sell tens of millions within a few years !

Yet roll forward to 2012 and they don't seem to exist, at least not in the mind of the telecoms trade or general public !

Go into a mobile phone shop, ask about the latest smartphone contracts, and request that the salesperson throws in a .tel with the deal and you just get a blank look and a response like "What's a .tel then ?" (I've actually tried this test out in a major UK city).

And that's from the trade, never mind "Joe Public" who hasn't a clue about what a .tel is !

When did you last see a billboard when you were out driving with a .tel address on it ?

Or a lorry or van signwritten with a .tel ?

So don't get too excited by computer industry awards is my advice !

This one is also looking nice. Could be a perfect gem for Telnames' collection of awards:

Royal Engineers Miniature
Medal
"Wide Range of Royal Engineers Awards and Commemorative Service Medals for sale available engraved with your name and service details".

Costs just £13.50 and they write that it is available to without restriction.

I think I need for myself also this medal. When I will got my $17 from JLousBiz then, perhaps, I will buy it.

Telnic won one a while back, they the "awarding body" said it was cool technology or something but the sponsoring organization for the award didn't buy their tel name as far as I could tel.

Thus is it really a worthy awarding body to be associated with? and show off?

Oops! Google Chrome could not find theeuropas.tel
Did you mean: theeuropas.com

So if they win, and this place don't get their telname, it's worth 0 as an award in my eyes.

It's like saying the best economical car is a X and you being the judge of an eco awarding body only ever drives a Y.

The owner of that site even do not knows that after a "dot" at the end of a sentence he needs first to make a "space" and only then begin the new sentence. Please, look at their site and check that:

awards.The Europas
categories.Startups can
Mike Butcher.Mike
etc.

Poor grammar of a native English-speaker shows who is who in reality. That site above with awards looks much more professional. So I would recommend to use it, when Telnames will decide to apply for their next award. : )
