.Tel or Telnames Which way should I jump?

Post by limejuice on Tue 13 Nov 2012, 9:48 am

This must be a dilemma that is faced by quite a few people

A .Tel is getting very close to renewal, so the way I see it, there are basically 3 choices.

(1) Drop it (my own personal favorite)

(2) Renew the .Tel

(3) Transfer it over to a .Telname

Does anyone have any thoughts on options (2) or (3) ?

Which one would give it the best chance of being indexed by google?

Does anyone think the .Tel will quietly be allowed to fade away

I would transfer your domain over to http://www.Telnames.com - even at over twice the price - particularly if you are trying to sell it.

The reason is very simple - the old Telnic subdomain style .tels are no longer being actively marketed - so any potential buyer who comes across a promo .tel is likely to view domains such as http://Ben.tel or http://YourBusiness.tel as the "face of .tel".

Sell someone something different, when all they have come across is the above Telnames style of .tel, and you are looking for problems and complaints !

Even if you just want to sell (rather than develop) your .tel domain you can easily set up a "for sale" page with Telnames user-friendly control panel - here's an example of one I did quickly - http://MobileHairdresser.tel

I just wish the existing Telnic .tel registrars were given access to the Telnames style template - this would then provide a consistent style to the .tel experience - essential if you are marketing to "Joe Public" what is effectively a "new" product.

Mike that seems like very good advice, what a shame there are only 5 links off and a limited number of pics.

You can actually have 20 Contact links, 5 Gallery Images and a Video - view the the full spec at http://www.telnames.com/features

The reason I don't have more links on http://MobileHairdresser.tel is because I don't need them for the objective I am trying to achieve - sell the domain to someone who wants to be the Mobile Hairdresser that customers contact first !

If Google's indexing is importrant for you, then definitly keep domain at normal registrar, which allows TEL with subdomains. Fill up subdomains with unique texts. Think about making useful project on your domain, which will be interesting for users. Then Google will index your TEL well. If you will keep empty domain, then there is no difference between Telnic or Telnames because in both cases indexing will be poor.

I personally decided to boycott Telnames because I think that if they will get less money, then they will bancrote sooner and there is a possibility that then Telnic will begin to develop TELs. So, if we pay more money for Telnames, the situation with TELs will worsen more.

limejuice wrote:(1) Drop it (my own personal favorite)
To drop or not, it depends on domain name you have. If that domain is a generic one-word domain, describing your bussiness or your service or your hobby or goods you sell, and you have an idea how to fill it with useful information, then, may be, it is worth to keep it.

Interesting ideas Maxi

I've only got a couple, so either way its really no big deal, I've been dropping my share of Key Words and I'm very glad to see the back of them

I agree with maxi.

With the Telnic's templates and a good work on your sites, your .tel pages will be indexed by Google, maybe behind the corresponding .com and the corresponding national suffix.

For example, making a seach for "Ligury", my site ligury.tel should be still in the first page of Google.

silvano, now I also see it at the first place in Google. May I ask you, what is the traffic to your site now?

Hmm... Not much. Just now I looked at KeyWordTool and it showed 73 monthly searches for exact word "Ligury". So with 64 you take almost all of them.

In summer, for all 3 months, at my Palma I had about 3000 visits monthly, but later Google with it's penguin reduced me to 20 visits/month.

Batman_tel was dropped by its former owner and now it is free for registration. : )

By the way, at Russian TEL-forum one user said recently that he has about 500 daily visits on one of his TELs. It means about 15,000 montly. Such traffic is not bad at all.

Which .tel?
I am not sure, will the owner of that TEL agree or not to expose its name at another forum, so I feel that I cannot directly write the name of that TEL here.

But you can visit that forum http://forumdottel.ru and look at few recent posts in the month of November - "Ноябрь" or "Нояб." in Russian, and you will surely can find that name there. I think it is not difficult, even in foreign language, because now there are only few of recent posts.

I guess the domain owner won't mind if he gets a little bit more traffic from here!
Is it http://primeta.tel ?

Yes, it is that TEL. I would say there are no too much texts in this TEL, but the results and traffic are very good.
