mikeseaton wrote:Q. What have Telrific, Jens, TELcp, TelKing and many other forum members got in common ?

A. They've all decided that .tel, as it currently stands, is simply not worth spending any more of their valuable time on !

Reading the recent posts on this forum it becomes increasingly clear that we are fighting a losing battle against Telnic/Telnames determination to ignore so many of .tel's long-time customers.

You really do have to ask - Is it now TIME TO QUIT .TEL ?
1000 Posts on TelTalk seems like a good time to put .tel on the backburner and concentrate on my sites BoatSearchEngine.com and Net-Link.com - there's a lot of competition coming up shortly with nearly 2000 new gTLDs hitting the streets !

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL WITH YOUR .TELS !

Thanks Frank, though I'd happily have the title "Low-Flyer" if Telnic would let me know where I can Join the world's only Real-Time Global Directory !

It sounds just what .tellers have been waiting for, and the above link has been there for 4 years, but where is it ?

URL please Telnic !

PS. No answers please saying its TelPages - "Global Directories" are broken down into Countries, then structured by Category.

I have now decided to quit the .tel project !

You will see my username logged-in now and again and I may post some .tel domains for sale if I judge there is any point in doing this, but IMO it is simply is a waste of time and money continuing to have an interest in this failing extension as it is currently being run by Telnic/Telnames.

I have never in all my years of internet business come across an organisation so determined to alienate what's left of its "ecosystem".

I predict many of Telnic's 122 Registrars will be the next to leave.

Have you ever come across a manufacturer of a product that releases a desirable new version and then refuses to let its army of 122 retail outlets sell it - but instead sells it direct to their customers ?

You couldn't make up some of the massive mistakes made in the running of the .tel project - but Telnic/Telnames have every right to squander opportunities as long as they have the money to do so - IMO this won't be for much longer !

Good Luck To You All - You Will Need It !

@mike

The only right decision!
Telnic doesn't get it!
It's better to invest the time in something where the responsible people in charge don't stick their heads in the sand!
I will follow you. This is my last post!
Good luck to you, too!

Sorry to see you go Mike. Another valuable contributor lost due to the T-tards. Ditto for Sunrise. They banned me from their forum a year or two ago and it still burns; I believe it still upsets you too.

I had 250 .tels and started dropping them after this. Now less than thirty. Funny thing was I just expressed a slightly negative opinion. Banned for being negative. It's happened to a lot of other investors with lots of .tels too as you know. All my goodwill for the project was lost then as it was for others too. You could even say I harbor a measure of hatred for the T-tards as a result.

Agree with all you say above. The T-tards are self destructing and all we can hope for is that someone buys them out and resurrects this total unmitigated disaster unprecedented in the history of the internet.

I believe you could still play a valuable role here warning newbies not to invest in this extension. And save them money especially with the smoke and mirrors routine used by the promoter to sell Telnames. Telnames are completely useless as we older hands know too well.

This is a very important task.
Everyday inexperienced people register .tel domains out of the blue without knowing what they are doing.

See this publisher from yesterday wasting his money:

If he had read here on the forum, he wouldn't have wasted $370 yesterday (37 domains x $10).
But at least we can warn him that there is no reason to waste his money again on the renewals next year.

pego_tel, "The ultimate online telephone directory for the town of Pego" goes to drop. It was the TEL of the month at Jun 2014: http://www.telnic.org/community-weeklytel.html

promoting_tel  also goes to drop. Once it was "a SELF-SERVICE site to promote dotTEL. Add tel-related content here via add-an-entry. Add .tel domains to the main directory (go to Directories) ..."

So is Mark Kolb of Telmasters fame no longer promoting.tel ?

From that TEL of the month list  (I checked  the first page only) at all 11 TELs already are dropped. And another three original TELs shows redirect to Kriukovo_tel. Summary - 14 projects are lost.

The "award list" @Maxi refers to at http://www.telnic.org/community-weeklytel.html used to be Weekly - then Monthly - now I note it's Bi-Monthly !

Is the next step for it to go the same way as the .Telegraph Newsletter, Telnic Blog, Telnic Forum (still locked-down), Telnic Developments (non-existent), etc, etc ?

Featuring DEAD .TEL DOMAINS on a .Tel of the Month page is just plain sloppy - does no-one at Telnic have the responsibility to keep their web site up-to-date ?

.TEL is supposed to be all about accessing the latest accurate information - yet they allow their web site to end up in such a state !

@Maxi says there are at least 11 Dead .Tel Domains on http://www.telnic.org/community-weeklytel.html - it's up to Telnic to sort this page out but here's a head start for them:

Advice for Telnic: changing the .Tel of the Month into the .Tel of the Year! Otherwise it could be difficult to find enough candidates - while registration numbers are on the way directly to zero.

The way they are going it will be .Tel of the Decade and that will be someone who accidentally registered a .tel rather than a .com.

2 more years and .tel will be gone forever:

I doubt very much it will be that long to wait - though it's quite possible another company will pick up .tel when the money finally runs out at Telnic !
