.tel vs telnames

.tel vs telnames

As a developer of tools, apps and services for .tel, we would like to explain the difference between .tel and telnames for the vast majority of forum members and visitors. And why we and so many other people keep telling the importance of developing the original concept of the .tel.

What is .tel ?
[quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.tel ]
The domain name .tel is a top-level domain (TLD) in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. It was approved by ICANN as a sponsored top-level domain, and is operated by Telnic.[4] ...
The domain's purpose is to provide a single name space for Internet communications services. Subdomain registrations serve as a single point of contact for individuals and businesses, providing a global contact directory service by hosting all types of contact information directly in the Domain Name System, without the need to build, host or manage a traditional web service. Additionally, as of July 2010, every tel domain acts as an OpenID and an increasing number of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) clients can address a tel domain name directly.[5] The TLD implementation also supports the hCard micro-format.[6]....
[unquote]

What is telnames?
Telnames is a service provider, a company formed by Telnic, to create a single page website based on the .tel platform.

Competitors of .tel // Reason // Present & future competition // Adoption of .tel in the future?
None. // .tel is a unique technology. A unique platform. // No known present & future competition. // People will adopt this innovative technology If properly developed/improved within its own technology and marketed.

Competitors of Telnames // Reason //Present & future competition // Adoption of Telnames in the future?
Many, see examples below. // Because it is kind of a website and it can not compete with other technologies which are capable of delivering better results to create a website. The .tel technology is unique in certain areas but has its own technical restrictioins when comes to create websites. // Very high present competition because other services provide better web presence (desktop & mobile) for FREE and for a very small fee with multiple features. One must note here that most of the current users of Telnames seem to be newcomers to web development and seem to be not aware of other modern technologies & services available today to build Desktop and Mobile websites. Future competition for Telnames is still very high as other web technologies develop much faster and lot of support services/providers are involved. // Future adoption not going to be high as people will start comparing Telnames with other similar services.

Hope this helps to understand the difference between .tel & Telnames before you purchase your tel domain.

I'm asking myself why Telnames needs to be programmed on DNS base!
Telnames could perform even much better when hosting all data on a normal sever like every other hosting service, especially when it comes to flexibility.
Why Telnames need to store the data inside the DNS?
Is there anything that justifies the existence of Telnames in relation to the .tel project?
Telnames may be a nice service for some customers, but it has very little to do with the original concept of .tel.
How Telnames can convince customers to buy a .tel at Telnic?
Instead Telnames is an argument to leave Telnic, because Telnic doesn't look good in comparison.
Nobody will buy a domain from Telnic if he knows the websites from Telnames.
The consequence is that Telnames is endangering the existence of Telnic.
And this is clear to see from the registration numbers. While Telnames gains momentum, Telnic is losing the customer base.

The establishment of Telnames in combination with the negligence of Telnic is the biggest scandal in the domain industry until today.
Unfortunately .tel is too insignificant to change anything about it.
The only possible reaction is to drop Telnic .tels - and that happens in huge numbers.

What I still can't understand is why Telnic doesn't give a statement at least about why it was necessary to launch Telnames and if Telnic will be developed any further.
That could help a lot to find some sympathy for Telnic, but keeping silent for so long gives only one impression: They don't care!

It's been mentioned a few times. Telnames gets underlying technology into the real world user base, then once momentum established along with worthy telpages book of useful search results, the original dns concept then swings into play.

The passion and true belief shown by the telnic crew with the original dns concept is/was not smoke and mirrors, it's time is still to come dns...the market today is a fast simple easy-to-do website presence. Dns benefits to be -re-marketed down the track

That says it all! It's disappointing that the success didn't come quickly, but that is true for .tel buyers as well as for Telnic. Now we have to be patient. The DNS still can become great!
